FOCUS GROUPS by a Trial Attorney for Trial Attorneys

"I don't know how I ever managed to try a case without you!" DEBORAH WOLFE

DEBORAH WOLFE, Past President San Diego Trial Lawyers

"I wouldn't hesitate to use Joel's services again and highly recommend him to anyone preparing for a jury trial. In fact, I don't think I would ever go into another jury trial without using a focus group to prepare for it."

KEN TUREK, Endeman, Lincoln, Turek & Heater

"We have used Joel’s focus group services several times and we have gotten great insights and results. Quite simply: he helped us win for the people who needed us to be our best."

JANICE MULLIGAN, Trial Attorney

"Because of Joel's own experience as a consumer trial attorney, his focus groups are particularly insightful and helpful. Joel's focus groups are also competitively priced and provide invaluable information. I found myself consulting the results from his focus group numerous times as I prepared for every step of my trial."

JONATHAN BRAND~ Trial Attorney Walnut Creek, CA

"Now that I have done a focus group I will never prepare for a significant trial without one. I highly recommend the Selik focus group. The program was well prepared, insightful and reasonably priced."

GEORGE DELAFLOR, Trial Attorney

"I had the pleasure of conducting my first focus group via a mock trial with Joel Selik’s Jury Project. It was both enlightening and fun. The facilities are well-suited for the focus group and Joel and his staff do their utmost to make the parties, attorneys and participants comfortable. Everything went smoothly. Everyone was on time. We profited immensely from the experience. It is understood that a
focus group will give lawyers insights on how non-lawyers might view a case, and to adjust to it accordingly. One of the underrated pluses of the focus group is the ability to try alternative approaches, and to be able to critique yourself when you’re on the outside looking in. I highly recommend Mr. Selik’s Jury Project, and would use his services again in a heartbeat!"

ALEX SCHEINGROSS, Trial Attorney

"2 weeks before trial, the last thing you want to do is spend time on the details of setting up a focus group. Joel provided me with a worry and stress fee focus group experience. All I had to do was show up with my client. The focus group was professionally run, with a good cross section of participants. Joel took care of all of the paperwork, did most of the preparation for the questionnaires and organized responses into an easy to follow binder. It provided me invaluable insights on how to try my case."

SUZIE MINDLIN Trial Attorney

"I try to do multiple focus groups in my cases. At every stage of the case, I find Joel and Kathleen's help invaluable, whether we are putting together a concept group at the beginning or a mock trial toward the end or a voir dire/opening practice the day before. Joel always has the great question that gets the group talking if we stall on something, and his questionnaires are helpful in an ongoing way as we develop themes and frame issues.Joel's mock juries are well-chosen, and I always learn from each participant. Everything runs on a well-planned schedule. The more information I give Joel and Kathleen, the better able they are to help me select what witnesses, issues and exhibits I want to test, so that the experience is profitable and not a black hole of money, time and effort. I've had clients who watched their mock trial videos and were able to self-correct for depo and trial so that their presentation was effective and attractive. Joel and Kathleen are experienced, wise, totally user-friendly and the food is always fantastic. The best bargain in complete focus group services."

JAMES MITCHELL Trial Attorney

"Joel ---- the focus group you and Katherine conducted was excellent in all respects except one --- too much food (and good too). I ruined my appetite for dinner munching on all the stuff. Again, top-notch.   Jim"

DAN GILLEON Trail Attorney

"We just completed a focus group at Joel Selik's Jury Project.  We had 4 experienced trial attorneys there, and all 4 were very, very impressed with the way Joel Selik and his staff organized and managed the whole process, allowing the attorneys and our client to focus on our case.  When each of us was not on stage in the courtroom, we were able to watch the live feeds in a separate room showing the jurors reacting to evidence as it was introduced.  When evidence was completed, we all watched the same live feed of the jurors deliberating.  At the end of the day, my partner and I kept wondering why we had not used Joel's services in the past.  We've been spending a ton of money on this particular case, videotaping every deposition, etc., but it only recently occurred to us that for just a fraction of the cost of preparing this case for trial, we could actually see how jurors might react to it.  Two more things.  First, the jurors were serious, and treated the case like they were in a real courtroom.  That was a big question I had going in, but it was clear Joel had vetted these jurors well.  Second, it was easy. Joel and his staff were prepared, organized, and directed the whole thing."
